A common misunderstanding is that there are no Australian university scholarships for international students. This is untrue. Universities value high-performing students and have many scholarship programs designed to attract the world’s best and brightest to study in Australia.
There are currently more than 3000 scholarships available to Australian students, across both the higher education and vocational sectors. Scholarships can cover an array of costs from tuition fees to living and accommodation costs, our advice is to investigate your options early on as the amount of information to get through and applications to fill can be overwhelming.

Many of these programs offer a substantial bulk payment, educational subsidies, or living allowances designed to make life easier for those looking to study in Australia.
Australian university scholarships
The Australian Government has a large scholarship program for scholarships for international students and invests some $200 million dollars per year in programs at universities and other tertiary institutions around the country. Many of the country’s top institutions including The University of Melbourne, The University of Sydney, and the Australian National University (ANU) offer scholarships to study in Australia with added extras, like health cover.

The UWA International Achievement Scholarship comes into effect on 5 December 2018 and all new applications received from this date will automatically be assessed for eligibility. The scholarship will be awarded to eligible South and South East Asian students students who apply for specified courses within the study areas of Commerce, Engineering, Computer Science and Data Science.

Australian Catholic University (Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney)
The Emergency Nursing staff of St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne have raised funds over the years to establish this bursary to support socially and economically disadvantaged students who aspire to join the nursing profession. Established in 2014 this bursary offers students the opportunity to be supported whilst studying Nursing at ACU and the opportunity to interview for a graduate year at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne.
Murdoch University (Perth)
The Murdoch University Academic Excellence Awards acknowledge and reward international students who have a record of high academic achievement in previous studies.
Eligible students can get up to a $11,000 scholarship through Murdoch University's International Welcome Scholarships.
University of Sydney (Sydney)
The University of Sydney invites candidates who are eligible to undertake a Postgraduate Research Degree or Master’s by Research program at this University to apply for the University of Sydney International Research Scholarship (USydIS). The USydIS will cover tuition fees and living allowance for up to three years with a possibility of one semester’s extension for PhD students.
Macquarie University International Scholarships (Sydney)
The Macquarie University Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarship provides a partial tuition fee scholarship for outstanding students to study an undergraduate or postgraduate degree at Macquarie University North Ryde campus. The scholarship amount is varied up to AUD$10,000.
University of Melbourne Graduate Research Scholarships (Melbourne)
The Graduate Research Scholarship was established by the University of Melbourne and is awarded to high achieving domestic and international research students. The scholarship benefits include tuition fee waiver, living allowance, relocation grant, and overseas student health cover.
University of Adelaide Adelaide Scholarships International (Adelaide)
The University of Adelaide offers the Adelaide Scholarships International (ASI) program to attract high quality international postgraduate students to areas of research strength in the University of Adelaide to support its research effort. The scholarships includes course tuition fees, annual living allowance, and health insurance.
Flinders International Postgraduate Scholarships (Adelaide)
Flinders International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (FIPRS) are awarded to suitably qualified applicants to pursue a full-time research higher degree at Flinders University – up to two years for a Research Masters degree and up to three years for a Research Doctorate degree. The scholarship covers the international student tuition fees, living allowance, establishment allowance, relocation costs and airfares.
